Legalities

The process for applying to marry in Malta is done in English and is a simple process. However every country and religion have their own requirements for supplying your certificates of freedom to allow a marriage to take place outside your place of origin/residence.

For couples outside Ireland & the United Kingdom we recommend you contact your local marraige registry / borough council or Department of Foreign Affairs for their exact requirement to process their papers for attaching to your Maltese documentation.

Mediterrean Weddings can file your civil marriage application with the Maltese & Gozitan Registrar as well as obtain your certificates after the wedding service. We will let you know what Maltese/Gozitan papers you require, depending on your nationality & marital status and take you through the simple process of filling civil papers.

All papers, both religious & civil must be filed with their respective offices within particular time frames. We will ensure you have these details included in your personalized wedding handbook as well as reminding you when the time comes.

Although your local parish priest will file your religious paperwork, we will book the church and the priest for you. In addition we will provide you with all the relevant details to give your parish priest for filing the papers. To marry via Roman Catholic ceremony you must both be of this denomination and have completed a pre marriage course.
